Ollie- This is the base of all skateboarding tricks. Better get used to it. To ollie, place the ball of your back
foot on the middle of the tail and your front foot towards the middle of the board. Where you place your front foot may be
dependant on how high you plan on ollieing. Bend your knees, then pop the board with your back foot and jump upward, while
simultaneously sliding your front foot upward to the nose and leveling out. Land, bend your knees, and ride away.
Backside 180- Put your feet in an ollie position, usually with your front foot a little farther forward. Look behind
you and wind up, then pop, and turn your body in the direction you are looking, carrying the board with you with your front
foot, creating a 180 rotation. After you land, start to lean backwards because it is easy to fall forwards after you land
the backside 180. Ride away.
Kickflip- One of the easier tricks in skateboarding. Put your back foot in the middle of the tail and your front foot
on or a little behind the front bolts at about a 45 degree angle. Pop the board and start to slide your front foot to the
heel-side corner of the board, and flick it off the edge once you get to the corner. Wait for it to fully rotate
then catch it and ride away.
Shuv-It- Another basic trick. Place your feet in an ollie like position. Pop the board and scoop your back foot behind
you, with your front foot guiding the board forward so that the board does a 180 rotation. After it has rotated, catch it
and ride away.
Heel flip- Some people are more comfortable with different front foot positions for this trick. Place your feet in an
ollie like position. Some people find it easier to let your front toes hang over the edge of the board. Pop the board and
begin to slide your front foot up like an ollie, but smack your heel over the toe-side corner of the board. Let it rotate
then catch and land.
Varial kickflip- This trick involves a shuv-it and a kickflip. Put your feet in the kickflip position. Begin to scoop
your back foot like a shuv-it then flick your front foot off the corner of the board. It's common to land to far forward on
this trick, so try to keep your body in line with the board, and jump back a little if it helps. After the board has done
a full kickflip and a 180 rotation catch and land.
Double kickflip- Place your feet like a kickflip position but bring your front foot farther back so that you can get
more spin. Pop the board hard and really grip your front foot on the concave as you flick off the corner of the board.
Wait for two rotations then catch and ride away. If you are landing before the board fully rotates you need to jump higher
or flick harder, and when in doubt, pop hard.
Impossible- Place your feet in a 3-flip position, but with your back toes hanging a little more over the corner
tail pocket. Keep your weight centered on the back of the board then pop hard and let the board start to flip backwards vertical.
Scoop your backfoot in a clockwise rotation and let the board wrap around it full 360. Catch and ride away. The usual problem
when learning these is landing in front of the board. Try to keep your body back and you should be fine.
Backside flip- Place your feet in a kickflip position. Wind up and pop your board and start to do a backside 180. As
you are doing the 180, flick your front foot off the corner of the board and do a kickflip. It's a lot easier if you keep
the board a little ways in front of you when you're turning and not have your board drag with you or it just won't work.
Use tips from the back 180 and kickflip to help you. Land and ride away.
Forward flip- Very few people know this trick. Although once you learn it, it's relatively easy. It involves the board
doing a half front flip with a half kickflip, kind of like a screwed up varial. Place your feet in the ollie position. Pop
the board hard and bring your front foot quickly up to the top of the board and smack downward hard with the side of
your foot directly in the middle of the nose, making it do a frontflip kickflip. You may need to spread your legs depending
on how vertical you do them. Try to jump forward a little to make it easier to land on the board. Land it and ride away knowing
you can do a trick your friend can't.
Inward heel- This trick many people think is impossible or really hard, but it actually can be really easy once
you develope the right technique. Place your feet in the ollie position, but point your front foot at a 45 degree angle, this
is key. Pop and scoop the board, starting to do the the shuv-it. Once the board gets about 90 degrees, hit the edge of
the board with the very tip of the side of your heel. Let the board finish the shuv-it and heelflip, then bring your front
foot back over the board and land.
Ollieing Stairs- This is one of the most fun elements of skating. The one thing is to know your limits. I dont mean to
chicken out just to stay safe, but dont try to ollie a stair you dont think you're ready for yet. Approach the stairset a
few times to get a feel for it, approach it then jump off your board and clear it with your body a couple times if need be.
The main thing to remember when doing a stairset is committment. You have to know your going to land in order to land it.
Ride up to the set at a reasonable speed, and once you get the edge of the top stair then ollie; it doesn't have to be a monster
ollie, just do one. Once your in the air and leveled out, you have to committ to it. Just convince yourself to keep your feet
on the board. If you keep clearing the set then pushing your board away at the last second, your not committing to it, and
you wont land it until you do. Once you land the stairset, bend low and absorb the shock.
